President Muhammadu Buhari presided over an emergency
security meeting at the presidential villa on Monday.
The president had on Sunday summoned the service chiefs and
heads of all security agencies for the meeting.
Yemi Osinbajo, vice-president, Babagana Munguno, national
security adviser, and Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the
federation (SGF), were in attendance when the meeting was held.
The meeting comes amid alerts issued recently by some countries on the likelihood of attacks in parts of Nigeria.
Countries such as the United States (US) and the United
Kingdom (UK) had updated travel advisories for their citizens in Nigeria.
The US had asked family members of its employees resident in
Abuja to leave the area, while the UK warned against unnecessary travel to the
nation’s capital.
Reacting to the development, the Department of State
Services (DSS) called for calm, while the president had said the travel
advisories do not signify imminent attacks in Abuja.
