Police investigation into the shocking discovery of a 67-year-old man allegedly locked up in a room for 20 years in Kaduna is currently in full swing with five persons assisting detectives.
This was disclosed by the Kaduna State Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammed Jalige who further assured that the investigation is being led by the DPO of Magajin Gari Police Division.
According to him, the discovery in a house along Benin Street was reported to the Police community health workers that were on duty at Bayajidda by Ibrahim Taiwo Road in Kaduna.
“The State Commissioner of Police ordered the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area to take full charge of the case,” Jalige affirmed.
Speaking further, he said: “The Commissioner also ordered that they should find out from the people around the area why the man was kept in a room for so long.”
Divulging further details about the victim, the PPRO avowed that policemen who went to the scene found him naked and took him to the hospital for medical evaluation after ensuring that he was fully clothed. The man, according to him had been locked up in the room for almost 20 years.
“That is where he ate, urinated and did everything without being taken care of,” he added.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the man has children and a wife who were nowhere to be found, but the people in the compound and the neighbouring houses are assisting the police to get the true position of the bizarre incident, he said.
“Five people are presently aiding police investigation,” Jalige confirmed.
