Malik Ado-Ibrahim, presidential candidate of the Young
Progressives Party (YPP), says he will deploy drones to tackle insecurity if
elected president.
Ado-Ibrahim spoke on Monday during an interview with
Channels Television.
Over the years, Nigeria has witnessed a spate of violent
attacks in parts of the country.
Speaking on how he will tackle insecurity, the YPP
presidential candidate said Nigeria must change the tactics used to fight
banditry and insurgency.
“There is a motive to
change the air superiority that Nigeria should have. It is not about Super
Tucanos. It is not about making something; it is what we are going to use,” the
YPP presidential candidate said.
“For example, I like the idea of using drones. They are
safe. They can be built in Nigeria. We can localise production, but what drones
give you is what we are not qualified to do tomorrow.
“We can’t train our pilots quick enough to fly night
machines. We don’t have filming energy. We don’t have the weapon systems. We
don’t have night vision capabilities but if you are sitting in a drone
environment where you have the optics and the dashboard to be able to see your
enemies, we can fly at night.
“We can see bodies at
night. We use filming energy; we can pinpoint 300 people moving in a bush. The
enemies know we don’t fly at night. So, when do they do their mischief? At
night. We need to change things.”
