Everton manager, Frank Lampard has compared Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo to Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi following his side’s Premier League 2-1 defeat to the Red Devils on Sunday.
Lampard watched as Ronaldo scored his 700th club career goal against Everton at Goodison Park.
Ronaldo had been on 699 career goals in club football since September 15, but his 700 arrived against Everton as he scored Man United’s second on the night.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Lampard hailed Ronaldo as one of the greatest players that have graced the game, adding that he and Messi are both incredible players in football history.
According to him, the comparison between Ronaldo and Messi doesn’t matter because the pair are both unbelievable.
“He is one of the greatest players that has graced the game, ever, in an era when we have had himself and Lionel Messi,” Lampard said.
“The comparison between them doesn’t matter; they are both incredible players in football history.
“The numbers they have racked up, abnormal numbers that have become normal. When he was on 699, I wanted him to score in the Europa League [against Omonia] the other night, but it wasn’t to be.”
