Nigeria’s queen of the track, Oluwatobiloba Amusan, is
expected to be nominated for the World Athletics’ Women’s Athlete of the Year
award.
The reigning African, Commonwealth, and World 100m hurdles
champion and record holder will become the first Nigerian athlete to achieve
the feat.
The nominees for the men’s and women’s Athlete of the Year
will be unveiled between October 12 and 13.
Amusan has been one of the standout athletes this year.
The Ogun-State-born athlete is one of the only three women
who set new world marks/times in their respective events.
The other two are, Venezuela’s Yulimar Rojas and Sydney
McLaughlin.
Amusan scorched to a 12.12s world record at the semi-final
stage of the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States of America.
She later won the final to become the first Nigerian to be
crowned a world champion.
The 25-year-old also emerged Diamond League champions in the
100m hurdles.
