62nd Independence Anniversary: Nigeria not yet country of our dream – PCN Prelate

The Prelate and Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, His Eminence Ekpenyong Nyong Akpanika, has said that despite celebrating the 62nd independence anniversary today, the country has not yet attained the dream its founders had.

In a statement to congratulate the country’s leadership and the people, the spiritual leader of PCN said the citizens have passed through really hard times in recent times.

He noted that Nigerians have proven to be very resilient and will not succumb to difficult times.

“On deep reflecton, we are forced to conclude that Nigeria at 62 is not yet the nation of our dream. Unfortunately, we are stll grappling with some primary and elementary issues bordering on corrupton, poor infrastructure, insecurity, tribalism, religious crisis, ethnic divisions, industrial actons, underdevelopment, banditry, poor social services etc.”

The PCN leader wondered if there was any need for celebration, cautioning Nigerians not to lose hope.

“At this tme of celebraton, many of us are forced to wonder if there is any need for it or if there is hope for Nigeria’s future. May I remind us of this eternal truth: if we lose hope, we lose all. ”

He encouraged Nigerians to continue to hold on to the hope that one day, soon, they shall get it right as a nation.

He charged Nigerians to keep believing that soon their country will experience a rebirth, buttressing that was the same message Prophet Isaiah gave to the Jews when they found themselves in exile in faraway Babylon.
