President Muhammadu Buhari has advised ministers not to be
distracted by activities for the 2023 elections.
Buhari said this on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the
2022 ministerial performance review retreat, held in Abuja.
He said the business of government must continue to receive
the necessary attention notwithstanding the start of campaigns for the 2023
general election.
“Consequently, all ministers, permanent secretaries, and
heads of agencies must remain focused in the discharge of their duties, as any
infraction will be viewed seriously,” Buhari said.
”Our collective goal is to map out a transition plan for the
incoming administration to ensure proper documentation of all the policies,
programmes, and projects of government with up-to-date status of
implementation.’’
The president charged government officials to double efforts
and work in synergy toward delivery of the administration’s targets, adding
that lessons learned in the last three years of implementing the
administration’s projects would serve as the needed tool to propel every
ministry towards delivering mandates.
He also said his administration will continue to “prosecute
high-profile corruption cases and ensure speedy completion”, while promoting
economic and sustainable development.
Buhari also spoke on his administration’s efforts in
completing projects and delivering on promises, adding that he looks forward to
handing over his legacies to his successor which would serve as a mechanism for
the next administration to follow.
