A seven-storey uncompleted building has collapsed at Oba
Idowu Oniru street, Lekki area of Lagos state.
At least six people were said to have been trapped in the
rubble of the collapsed building — and two persons have been reported dead.
Emergency responders have been deployed to commence rescue
exercise.
Confirming the incident, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Lagos
State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said the agency has activated its
response plan.
“Upon arrival at the
scene of the incident, an uncompleted 7 storey building undergoing construction
was found to have collapsed,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
“Six people are reported to be trapped under the rubbles of
the collapsed structure.
“The agency’s heavy duty equipment excavator will be
required for the rescue of the trapped victims. We have activated Lagos State
Response plan.”
Recently, building collapse has become a recurring trend in
Lagos.
In May, the collapse of a three-storey building in
Ebute-Meta axis of state claimed at least eight lives.
In February, a three-storey building collapsed in the Onike
area of Yaba, leading to several casualties.
