Tuchel makes emotional social media statement after Chelsea sacking

Thomas Tuchel has spoken for the first time following his sacking as Chelsea Football Club manager, saying “it is the most difficult statements I have ever had to write”.

The German tactician was relieved of his duty at Chelsea following their 1-0 defeat away to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League which happened to be their third loss in seven games this season.

His relationship with the club’s co-owner Todd Boehly also reportedly became strained fastening the decision by the new owners to cut ties with the former Paris Saint-Germain head coach.

Reacting for the first time since his sacking in a series of tweets on Sunday night, Tuchel said he was devasted that his time at the London-based club has come to an end.

He tweeted, “This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write – and it is one which I hoped I would not need to do for many years. I am devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end.

“This is a club where I felt at home, both professionally and personally. Thank you so much to all the staff, the players and the supporters for making me feel very welcome from the start.

“The pride and joy I felt at helping the team to win the Champions League and the Club World Cup will stay with me forever. I am honoured to have been a part of this club’s history and the memories of the last 19 months will always have a special place in my heart.”

Chelsea wasted little time in replacing the Germain hiring Graham Potter from Brighton to come and take charge of the team and try to change their fortunes as quickly as possible.

Potter’s first match in charge of the Blues would have been against Fulham on Saturday but the game was postponed along with all other Premier League fixtures over the weekend following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Champions League encounter against RB Salsburg on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, will now be the former Brighton manager’s first match for the 2021 Champions League winners.
