Inuwa Yahaya, governor of Gombe, says Bola Tinubu, the
presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has a “very
high” chance of victory in the north-east during the 2023 polls.
According to NAN, the governor spoke on Saturday after
visiting Abdulsalami Abubakar and Ibrahim Babangida, former heads of state, in
Minna, Niger state.
The north-east is a hotly-contested zone ahead of the 2023
presidential election.
Tinubu selected Kashim Shettima, former governor of Borno, as his running mate but the duo would be contending for votes from the zone with Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who has a strong sway in the north-east.
Speaking on the development, Yahaya said Atiku’s influence
matters little, adding that the APC will win in the geopolitical zone.
“Our chances in the north-east are very high indeed,” he
said.
“We are strong in our resolve to win the 2023 general
elections and we shall succeed.
“It does not matter
that the PDP presidential candidate is from North-East. Both Tinubu and Atiku
are my brothers.
“Nigeria is one and we are struggling to maintain it as a
united and indivisible country.
“It doesn’t matter where they come from, what we need is the
best for Nigeria.”
