Tarabans who on Saturday put aside their religious, tribal and political differences to usher into the state, former governor Jolly Nyame, have urged him to use his political wealth of experience in ensuring a new Taraba come 2023.
Casting aspersions on the incumbent state governor, Darius Ishaku, whom they said not only performed poorly but succeeded in turning the people against themselves, the people asked Nyame to fashion out ways of uniting the people.
The members representing Ardo-Kola, Lau and Karim-Lamido federal constituency, Danladi Baido, who was at the event expressed sadness at the way and manner Taraba had been impoverished by the incumbent administration.
Baido who is also the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the forthcoming elections, claimed the absence of Nyame from the state in the past four years, has led to the marginalisation of the different ethnic groups in the state.
Also speaking, the Senator representing Taraba South senatorial district, Emmanuel Bwacha, who asked “how we found ourselves in this situation” asked Nyame to as a matter of urgency do the needful for the people to forget their predicaments come next political dispensation.
Stressing that “the state has not had it bad like this” Bwacha, who also doubles as the governorship flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for Taraba, pleaded with Nyame not to sit back with his hands folded on his chest watching the state go from bad to worse.
Like other Tarabans, especially the politicians who used the occasion of Nyame’s arrival to voice out their ill feelings towards Ishaku’s administration, Bwacha said ” your excellency, we don’t want to go back to Egypt and we don’t want to go back to our vomit. All we want is a new Taraba”.
Moved by the people’s submission, Nyame assured them of his commitment to reaching out to all the relevant stakeholders to reposition the state.
Stressing that ” I am back home” plans to bring Tarabans from the nooks and crannies of the state under one united umbrella, he said they would soon be put in place by him.
The ill feelings of the people towards Ishaku’s administration were also demonstrated at the stadium as they prevented Ishaku’s representative from mounting the podium and addressing them.
