Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Thursday revealed
the root of his rift with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential
candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the Party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
The former presidential aspirant while commissioning a
project in the state claimed Atiku had after winning the party’s primary,
promised that Ayu would resign.
He, however, said the former vice president failed to fulfil
the promise, leading to the current crisis rocking the party.
Wike who insisted that Iyorchia Ayu must step down as the
chairman of the party said “This fight, we will fight it to the end”.
The Rivers Governor said the issue at hand is that of
justice and fairness, stressing that having produced the presidential candidate
of the party, the North should not also hold on to the chairmanship of the
party.
The governor vowed that the resignation of Walid Jibril as
the Board of Trustees BoT chairman will not stop his demand for Ayu’s removal.
