Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have proven to be breakers of their promises to the people and 2023 general elections present opportunity for the people to vote a credible alternative, a prominent politician in Adamawa State, Ahmadu Hamman, has said.
Hamman, a senatorial candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), said on Saturday at the inauguration of his campaign council ahead of start of campaign next week that the NNPP is the alternative to the leading two parties.
Hamman, who was of the APC until he became one of those who reinvented the NNPP in the state earlier this year, said, “The PDP which led government in the centre for 16 years, failed us. The APC took over amidst high expectations but the APC soon relaxed. So, both parties failed us badly. They broke the promises they made.”
Hamman, under the NNPP, will in 2023 be contesting for the Adamawa Central Senatorial seat against political heavyweights, including Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Aminu Iya Abbas who holds the PDP senatorial ticket; and Senator for the Adamawa Central Zone between 2015 and 2019, Abdulaziz Nyako who is seeking a return to the Senate and has the APC ticket for the 2023 election.
He said he is confident of beating the PDP and APC senatorial candidates for the Adamawa Central seat come next year, emphasising, “We are confident we are going to defeat the two dominant political parties in the land. PDP was around and they did nothing, rather they brought deformation and dislocation.
“We thought APC will bring succour to Nigerians but after the APC failed woefully we left them. We are going into the polls with capability to bring the needed changes.”
He named Alhaji Ibrahim Bappa, a former member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, as the Director General of his campaign.
