Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo, says the Igbo are passionate
about promoting unity and peace in Nigeria.
The governor spoke on Saturday at an event organised in
honour of Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) board of trustees (BoT), who will turn 80 on Sunday.
Uzodimma said the Igbo living across the country are
peace-loving people.
“Igbos love Nigeria passionately and the evidence is
overwhelming,” he said.
“There is no part of
Nigeria, no matter how remote, where you will not find Igbos living happily
with their host communities while contributing to the growth and development of
the area.
“What the Igbo seek from the country is accommodation, not
domination. What they seek is acceptance and not rejection. What they seek are
friendship and brotherhood, and they are also willing and able to offer the
same.”
Also speaking, former President Goodluck Jonathan described
Iwuanyanwu as a bridge builder who has continued to prioritise the unity and
progress of Nigeria.
According to the former president, the former PDP BoT member
is worthy of celebration for his contribution to Nigeria’s economy and
political development.
Jonathan added that the Igbo hold an important place in the
history of Nigeria as they have made significant contributions to the progress
of the country primarily through trade and investment.
