War: Russia reaches major agreement with Turkey


President Vladimir Putin of Russia and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan have reached agreement that Turkey will pay Russia in rubles for partial gas supplies.


The bilateral talk between the two countries was held in Sochi and lasted for over four hours on Friday.


Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, who spoke with reporters after meeting, said “In the process of negotiations, the presidents agreed that they would start payment in rubles for partial gas supplies.”


He said the talk was just in its first stage, adding that part of the supplies will be paid in Russian rubles.


The Deputy Prime Minister said the talks would provide new opportunities, including for the development of Russian and Turkish monetary and financial relations.


Novak also said the two presidents reached agreements on establishing the financial banking bloc “to enable commercial companies, Russian citizens, to pay during tourist trips and exchange money.”


The two leaders also agreed to hold the next meeting of the Russian-Turkish High-Level Cooperation Council in Turkey.
