EPL: Ten Hag speaks on Ronaldo, Maguire’s future after 2-1 win over Liverpool

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag has said Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo still have a part to play in his team.

Ten Hag was speaking to the media after a 2-1 win over Liverpool on Monday, a game in which he dropped both players from his starting XI.

Maguire, who was replaced by Raphael Varane, did not come off the bench, while Ronaldo played for only five minutes.

Ten Hag’s brave decision to drop the two players has led to speculation about their futures at United.

Ronaldo has long informed the club he wants to leave so he can play in the Champions League, while Maguire has been linked with Chelsea.

But Ten Hag has made it clear the squad will play up to 60 matches this season and he needs everyone.

“I have a squad and we have to use the squad. We play 50-60 games, from game-to-game we will see what team we will pick.

“I don’t have to mention Maguire and Ronaldo – they are amazing players and they will play a role in the future and the short-term future as well.

“We have the right players, I am convinced of that. The window is not closed and you need numbers and also quality,” Ten Hag said.
