Maverick entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as
CharlyBoy, has withdrawn from the truth, justice and peace commission set up by
Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Recall that Soludo had in April set up a committee to
unravel the true cause of armed struggle in the Southeast region, which has led
to insecurity.
He also appointed Dr. John Otu, Mr. Ngozi Odumuko, Ms Onyeka
Onwenu, Dr. Joe Abah, Mr. Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, Mr. Sam Egwuatu and Prof.
Joseph Ikechebelu, among others.
However, in a video on his Instagram page, Charlyboy said he withdrew from the committee because he did not receive a formal invitation to be part of the Committee.
He said he received his nomination with gratitude and look
forward to making useful contribution to finding a solution to the problems but
the organizers communicated ineffectively.
”I never received a formal invitation to the part of the
committee work. Few months there was a few days notice to an inaugural meeting
in Akwa, Since there was no arrangement to bring me to Akwa i attended the
meeting via zoom.
”The Governor called me again some weeks back, thinking i
was already in Akwa for the Inauguration and I complained about how the
handlers have been communicating so ineffectively with us. I am reliably
informed that my sister Onyeka Onwenu went through the same experience but has
since resigned from the committee. Even though I am honoured by the invitation
, I am rather disappointed by the organizers and how they have been unable to
engage us in their plans and activities.
”I cannot in good conscience pend my name to a process I was
not fully invested in. I am therefore formally withdrawing my name, my
participation from this committee .I wish to commend the vision of the Governor
for setting it up. I trust that it will live up to its expectations,” he said.
