Users regain access after Twitter outage

Millions of users of the popular social media website, Twitter, have been denied access to the service after the platform mysteriously shut down.

The platform boasts over 200 million active daily users and is a source of instant information for many of the users.

As of 1 pm on Thursday, an online platform that provides real-time information about the status of websites and services, Downdetector, reported that there had been a spike in reports of Twitter being shut.

Twitter has been embroiled in a face-off with the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, over the sale of the platform.

Musk had forced a sale of Twitter from its Board but decided to pull out of the deal after he claimed the company failed to disclose the number of bot accounts on the platform.

Twitter is set to sue the billionaire to force him to buy the company at the originally agreed sum of $44 billion.

About an hour after the shutdown, Twitter became accessible again to affected users across the globe.

According to Downdetector’s outage map, the outage was concentrated in larger cities and did not affect rural areas, hence it was not a global occurrence.
