Anambra: Sowore reacts to assault of Pastor Odumeje by Police

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, has condemned the manhandling of Pastor Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, by members of the Anambra State taskforce.

Sowore said the soldiers and policemen who manhandled Odumeje should be arrested and prosecuted.

In a tweet, the rights activist described the manhandling of Odumeje as cruel, inhuman, and a violation of his dignity.

He wrote: “This attack on Pastor Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere “Odumeje” by soldiers/policemen is cruel, inhuman and a violation of his dignity, it amounts to torture and degrading treatment. The soldiers or policemen involved must be arrested and prosecuted.

“Nigerian states must be disallowed from using soldiers and security agents to carry out civilian activities. #WeCantContinueLikeThis.”

The Anambra State Government had demolished Odumeje’s church, the Mountain of Holy Ghost Intervention and Deliverance Ministry, located in the Onitsha area of the state.

The government said it was in line with the Onitsha Urban Renewal Plan of Governor Charles Soludo’s administration.

The structure was said to be erected along Nwagene stream at Odoakpu and had to be removed.

During the exercise, Odumeje was slapped and hit by men of the task force who accused him of obstructing their assignment and attempting to stop work.

  1. This our police and soldier should be reorientated on how to handle stubborn civilians, not beat up one. They can bundle him to one side and threaten him with arrest if he continues to hinder them from carrying out their duties. They arrest him if he does. Civilised security agents will not do what they did. The country is lagging behind in many things.
