Osinbajo departs Nigeria for Abidjan after APC presidential primary defeat

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo will depart Abuja today, Monday, for Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire to join other leaders in Africa and beyond at the annual summit of the Africa CEO Forum.

The forum, put together by Jeune Afrique Media Group, in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation, an arm of the World Bank, takes place from the 13th–14th of June, 2022.

It is said to be Africa’s largest private sector event, featuring conferences, debates and high-level meetings focusing on highlighting the role of the private sector in the development of the continent.

Nigeria’s Vice President will join the likes of Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, and other business and political leaders in the opening panel in discussing the topic “Economic Sovereignty: From Ambition to Action”.

A statement signed by his media aide, Laolu Akande, said that Osinbajo will also hold bi-lateral meetings with different stakeholders, including United Nations SG’s Special Advocate on Inclusive Finance for Development, her Majesty, Queen Maxima of Netherlands and the Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation, IFC, Makhtar Diop among others.

The VP is accompanied by the Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters, Ambassador Adeyemi Dipeolu and he is expected back later on Monday.

It would be the first time the VP will go outside the shores of the country since after his defeat in the presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress, APC, last Wednesday.

The National Leader of the APC and former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, scored 1,271 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Chibuike Amaechi, who polled 316, while Osinbajo only came third, polling 235 votes.
