Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has finally made contact with European club, Sevilla, over Jules Kounde’s transfer.
Chelsea has been tracking Kounde since last summer, when they had agreed on personal terms with the Frenchman but failed to negotiate a fee with Sevilla who was adamant the player would only leave if his release clause was met.
A year later and under pressure to cash in, a £56 million offer would now be accepted for Kounde but Sevilla was left bemused by a lack of communication from Chelsea regarding a deal.
According to ABC Sevilla, Boehly has finally made contact over a transfer, reaching out to Sevilla on Wednesday morning to begin work on a deal for the centre-back.
There is a feeling from all parties that the transfer will be relatively uncomplicated to complete, with Sevilla lowering their asking price since last summer and Kounde happy with the personal terms that were already agreed with Chelsea a year ago.
Kounde joined Sevilla from French club, Bordeaux, back in 2019.
The 23-year-old immediately became a regular starter for the Spanish LaLiga giants and helped them win the Europa League during his debut season.
His impressive performances during the 2020-2021 season earned him a place in Didier Deschamps’ France squad for Euro 2020 last summer.
