Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode have warned the
All progressives Congress, APC, particularly, the Northern governors against
forcing some presidential aspirants to step down.
A report earlier emerged that APC Northern governors who had
zoned the party’s ticket to the South presented three names to President
Muhammadu Buhari for possible consensus.
The reports claimed those on the list include, the national
leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and the
former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
Reacting to the report, FFK warned that other aspirants who
are not on the list may seek legal redress after the election which may mar the
outcome of the exercise.
In a post on his verified Facebook page, FFK advised that a
level playing ground be given to all aspirants.
He wrote, “If you try to force anyone to step down by
excluding them from the ballot at the Convention, know that you are violating
section 84 of the Electoral Act and that that aspirant will go to court and
turn the whole proceeding into a nullity.
“The Northern Governors that are saying they are zoning the
ticket and reducing the aspirants to 3 ought to be mindful of this.
“They do not have that power and neither ought they try to
determine who our presidential candidate ought to be. Let everyone run and let
there be a level playing field”.
Fani-Kayode has been a major supporter of the Kogi State
Governor, Yahaya Bello’s presidential ambition.
