Suspected cultist kingpin remanded for alleged murder in Ilorin



A self-confessed cultist kingpin, Olagunju Tijani, who allegedly admitted to having killed some rival cult members in the bid to gain promotion in the Eiye Confraternity, has been remanded in the Correctional Service Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State.


He was charged with murder and belonging to a cult group by the police before Magistrate Adams Muhammed, who did not take his plea.


It was reported that Tijani was recently arrested and paraded by the state Police Command in Ilorin, Kwara State, during which he confessed to being the NO2 member of the Eiye cult confraternity in the Ilorin zone.


Magistrate Adams Muhammed directed the police to return the case file to the Kwara State Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advice and adjourned the matter till June 7, 2022, for mention.


Inspector Moshood Adebayo, Prosecution Counsel, alleged that Tijani, who is a school dropout, murdered Ismaila Alabi and Emmanuel, a student of the Human Kinetics Department, University of Ilorin, in his desperate quest to assume power as the number two man in ‘Eiye Fraternity of Kwara State.


He also alleged that the suspect confessed that he used an English pistol belonging to his father who was a retired Major in the Nigerian Army to commit the murder.
