We’ll work with Nigeria to investigate, prosecute crime perpetrators – ICC to Osinbajo

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is set to work with Nigeria to encourage domestic jurisdictions to investigate and prosecute perpetrators of core international crimes.

ICC Prosecutor, Karim Khan announced the plan at a meeting with Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo.

The VP received Khan at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Tuesday.

Khan acknowledged Nigeria’s role in Africa, adding that his visit “comes at a critical time in the history of the continent”.

The prosecutor said the proposed roadmap for reforms would help African countries to achieve justice via the principle of complementarity.

In his remark, Osinbajo commended the move by the ICC to reform its system.

He said it would reassure African countries that there is room for negotiations and that the ICC is not out to witch-hunt individuals or organisations.

Osinbajo stressed the importance to create a system that builds relationships and credibility among member States.

The VP told the court that the steps being taken are very crucial and assured of Nigeria’s support.

“For Nigeria, you will get all the cooperation. At the end of the day, people must feel that the system is just and fair to all”, he said.
