President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over a
meeting of the council of state.
The meeting which is taking place at the presidential villa,
Abuja, kicked off around 10:00 am on Thursday.
This will be the fourth time Buhari will preside over the
council which is an advisory body to any sitting president of the country.
At the commencement of Thursday’s meeting, a one-minute
silence was observed in honour of the late Ernest Shonekan, former head of an
interim government.
Issues bordering on security and the economy are said to be
on the agenda of the meeting.
Yakubu Gowon, Abdulsalami Abubakar and Goodluck Jonathan,
former head of states and president, are attending the meeting.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida are
absent.
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Boss Mustapha, secretary to
the government of the federation (SGF), and Babagana Monguno, national
secretary adviser (NSA), are also attending the meeting.
Kayode Fayemi, Ekiti governor and chairman of the Nigeria
Governors Forum (NGF), and Hope Uzodimma, Imo governor, among others joined the
meeting virtually.
