Ayade’s Commissioner blasts APC stalwarts for allegedly working against party

Governor Ben Ayade’s Commissioner for Rural Transformation, Edem Okokon Effiom has blasted former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Usani, former Senator who represented Cross River Central Senatorial District, John Owan-Enoh and former chairman of Nigeria Ports Authority, Akin Rickets, for refusing to work for the ruling APC during the last byelection in Akpabuyo state constituency.

He alleged that their refusal contributed to the party losing the seat to rival PDP.

In an interview, Effiom insisted they also discouraged their supporters from mobilising the interest of the electorate for the party during the byelection.

“I say no to the fact that we lost in the last byelection in Akpabuyo. The Owan Enoh and the Usani Usani group in Cross River APC vehemently refused to work for the party.

“A greater portion of their members refused to work for the party. It means they have no grip over their members. Or they instructed their supporters to work against the party.”

Effiom was reacting to last week’s communique by Usani and Owan-Enoh’s group after they summoned some Cross River Central senatorial politicians to protest Governor Ayade’s decision to support one from Southern Senatorial District to succeed him next year.

The Owan-Enoh and Usani Usani groups completely disagreed with the governor over his stand.

The Commissioner argued that the group has blatantly erred, cautioning that they should never take the south for a ride even though many see them as being docile.

“We should never be underestimated because we appear docile. We have seven local governments in the South, controlling over 45% of the population of this state. We have more than 45% registered voters.

“If we are pushed to the wall, we have the capacity to unleash these advantages against any other contender outside the Southern District. They should not forget how this might gave Donald Duke victory in 1999. Please I use this medium to appeal to the central, they should not dare the south.”
