President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, hosted the founding
members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2023 political
season.
The parley was held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the
nation’s capital.
In February 2013, multiple parties and leading political
stalwarts formed the ruling APC.
They include Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) factions.
Buhari met the leaders at the State House ahead of
Saturday’s national convention.
Present were former Lagos Governor Bola Tinubu; former Osun
Governor Bisi Akande; ex-Imo Governor Rochas Okorocha; Kaduna Governor Nasir
El-Rufai.
Science and Technology Minister Ogbonnaya Onu; Katsina
Governor Aminu Masari; ex-Sokoto Governor Aliyu Wammako; Minister for
Transportation Rotimi Amaechi also attended.
Others include Chief of Staff to the President Ibrahim
Gambari; Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha and APC
Caretaker Chairman Mai Buni.
Earlier in the day, Buhari received leaders and principal
officers of the National Assembly.
The APC convention will take place at the Eagle Square.
Security is heightened around the area, which will be cordoned off from Friday
night.
