Ahead of their Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying playoff, Ghana Football Association has announced the appointment of former Newcastle United manager, Chris Hughton as their new technical adviser.
The GFA also appointed former midfielder, Otto Addo as the head coach, with George Boateng and Mas-Ud Dramani also part of the new technical crew.
The GFA made the announcement following a meeting of its executive committee on Wednesday.
“Former Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has been appointed as Technical Advisor to the newly constituted Black Stars Technical team led by Otto Addo,” a Ghana FA statement confirmed on Wednesday.
“Other members of the new Technical team include George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani. The 63- year old will provide Technical advice to the three man team for next month’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 play-off match against Nigeria,” it added.
Ghana and Nigeria will battle it out in March for a place in the World Cup tournament coming up later this year.
Nigeria has earlier announced that they have retained interim coach, Austine Eguavoen to take charge of the Super Eagles and drafted in former Barcelona star, Emmanuel Amuneke into the technical crew.
The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has also announced their decision to play the reversed fixture of the two-legged playoff match at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
While Ghana crashed out of the Africa Cup of Nations in the group stage, leading to the sack of their coach, Nigeria made it to the round of sixteen where they surprisingly crashed out to Tunisia after being tipped by many to win the tournament.
