Nigeria’s former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili has said that she has gotten answers to reports that Poland is not allowing Nigerians fleeing Ukraine to enter their country.
War broke out in Ukraine on Thursday as the country mounts resistance to Russian soldiers’ invasion of major cities on the order of President Vladimir Putin.
Nigerians and nationals of other countries are now entering Poland and other neighbouring nations for safety.
However, the Nigerian Government on Thursday expressed concern over Poland‘s refusal to allow Nigerians fleeing Ukraine into the country.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, raised the concern on behalf of the government during a meeting with envoys of European Union countries over the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
And Dr Ezekwesili also shared her worries over the issue but added that the Polish government said that Nigerians are allowed to enter their country and stay for only 15 days.
“I went in search of *Answers* to disturbing news we’ve been reading about Nigerians seeking entry into Poland,” she tweeted.
“If you are Nigerian, got to any Border Control in Poland and were turned back by Polish immigration officials, can you DM a scanned copy of your passport, please
“Besides the long wait time (estimated as three days for some) at borders, the Polish authorities stated that our citizens are freely allowed entry into Poland and can stay for only 15 days and then leave their territory.
“If you were turned down, please send your passport details.”
She added, “Further informed that:
“’Nigerian officials from the Embassy in Poland are at the border with transport for Nigerians.
“Once you cross the border from Ukraine into Poland, please shout out to be located.
“No sealed lips. Shout ‘Embassy of Nigeria’ so they can find you o.”
