One shot dead, another missing as Osun APC conducts primary election


Violence marred the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primary election in Atakunmosa West local Government Area of Osun State on Saturday as Job Akinola, a member of the party died after being hit by a stray bullet.


Akinola was among party members at the Ward 6 polling unit for the exercise at about 12 noon, when a Toyota Hilux, loaded with suspected hoodlums, stormed the venue of the polls and started shooting sporadically.


Eyewitnesses recounted that as gunshots were fired, the victim was hit by a stray bullet and he died on the spot.


Personnel of the Nigeria Police, who engaged the hoodlums, shot at the tyres of the vehicle. The hoodlums abandoned it and escaped on foot.


The corpse of the victim, it was learnt, was taken by the police and conveyed to an unknown hospital.


The Toyota Hilux was later taken to the Police Area Command, Ayeso, Ilesa.


Meanwhile, Kasali Adebiyi Morufu, another APC member in Ward 12, Osogbo, has been declared missing.


Information available to newsmen revealed that Kasali left home for the venue of the gubernatorial primary election on Saturday morning and he has not been heard from.


Concerned relatives revealed that since he left home on Saturday morning, he has not returned and could not be reached on phone.


The Osun command of the Nigeria police is yet to confirm the incidents.
