Governor Badaru speaks on possible solution to banditry in Nigeria

The Governor of Jigawa State, Muhammad Badaru has said the problem of banditry and other criminal activities could be resolved if it is handled like it was done in Jigawa State by his predecessors.

The Governor stated this on Wednesday at the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council’s (PEBEC) ‘Business Made Easy, held in Jigawa State.

He said farmers/hersmen crisis was the root cause of banditry in all the affected States.

“Therefore, overcoming the farmers/herders’ crisis will help in tackling armed banditry and other criminal activities in all the affected States.

“Jigawa, which is bordered by Katsina State, was relatively peaceful in the region, compared to other States, due to the efforts and commitments of my predecessors.

“Saminu Turaki administration demarcated cattle routes and grazing reserves, while Lamido constructed windmills and improved grazing reserves and built nomadic schools.

“When we came in, we continued from where they stopped and also introduced the mobile veterinary services in 30 wards to help herders get access to veterinary services in their areas.

“Unfortunately, these issues were not handled enough in other places; that is why probably the problem escalated in some States.”

Badaru noted that if those things were considered, the country would have not found itself in the present situation.
