Ahmed Musa donates N2m to Olympic medalist, Kingley Obiekwu

Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has donated N2 million to 1996 Olympic gold medalist, Kingsley Obiekwu.

Obiekwu, who was a member of the gold medal-winning team at Atlanta 1996, made the news last week after he was seen driving a commercial vehicle in Enugu State.

In a recent interview, Obiekwu disclosed that he was experiencing financial struggles and had to resort to using his only car as a commercial vehicle in Enugu to feed his family.

He lamented that so many Nigerian clubs he worked for as a coach owe him and he had no choice but to become a commercial driver.

Confirming the donation, several associates of the former CSKA Moscow forward announced the development on Twitter.

Hailing the philanthropic gestures of Musa, many Nigerians took to Twitter commending him for his generosity and kind-hearted spirit.

Sport journalist Temisan Okomi tweeted: “Ahmed Musa, in my opinion, is the best Nigerian footballer ever.

“Always ready with open arms and pockets. I pray his investments don’t fail him and he grows extremely old in financial contentment. A true great.”

@TheAfrican_Hub tweeted: “This is an appreciation tweet to Super Eagles Captain of Nigeria Ahmed Musa who donated N2 million to Former Nigerian International Kingsley Obiekwu.”

@SirDavidbent “Just like in Nollywood, where actors/actresses do not help their fellow thespians in time of need, so it is with Nigerian footballers. Good to see what Ahmed Musa did for Kingsley Obiekwu. Not that Ahmed was even part of the squad that won the Olympics in Atlanta.”

@Veranmi19 “If we can’t help ourselves, we shouldn’t expect much from abroad. Many more good years to come for you Ahmed Musa. You deserve to be hailed for being there for Kingsley Obiekwu. He doesn’t deserve to be Agbero at a motor park, he is a hero. Thank you, Ahmed Musa.”

@Tope_soft “That Kingsley Obiekwu story says much about how difficult and unfair life is.You can achieve success at some point but if you don’t keep succeeding, it’s hard to stay at the top.. Succeeding consistently is the hardest part of life!”

@DejiAdesogan “Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has donated N2 million as financial support to 1996 Olympic football gold medalist, Kingsley Obiekwu, who was seen at a transporting garage in Nsukka as bus driver cos for financial constraint. Thank you Ahmed Musa for your consistent generosity.”
