Ondo deploys Amotekun to prisons after soldiers’ withdrawal

Following the withdrawal of military personnel, operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, otherwise known as Amotekun corps, have been drafted to correctional centres across the state.

The Amotekun corps were deployed to the correctional centres alongside other security agents from the state commands of the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

It was gathered that the deployment was initiated by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in order to prevent jailbreaks in the state.

Akeredolu had on Wednesday raised the alarm over the sudden withdrawal of soldiers from the facilities across the state, stressing that the action portends danger as it could induce jailbreak in the state.

Amotekun corps Commander in the state, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye disclosed this at the headquarters of the corps in Akure, the state capital.

According to the Amotekun boss, the correctional centres which are Federal Government’s physical assets ought to be the responsibility of the mother security agencies to provide adequate protection for the facilities.

“As soon as that incident (soldiers withdrawal) happened, the police and the NSCDC immediately deployed their men to all the correctional centres.

“With our knowledge of the local intelligence, men of the Amotekun were directed by the governor to join the sister security agencies to ensure that there is no vacuum,” Adeleye said.

“At the moment, all the correctional centres within the state are being manned by the officers and men of the police, NSCDC and the Amotekun.”
