Following the withdrawal of soldiers from highways and checkpoints in Ondo State, the Police Command in the state has taken up internal security of the state.
With the police taking the lead in ensuring the security of lives and property of citizens of the state, the Command has sought the collaboration of other security agencies ahead of the Yuletide.
Recently, soldiers were withdrawn from all military checkpoints on the highways in the state creating tension among residents.
Following the withdrawal, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, Kennedy Peretei had alleged that soldiers from the 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment, Akure were withdrawn from the checkpoints due to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu refusal to pay their allowances.
But the claim of the PDP was dismissed by the Commissioner for Information in the state, Donald Ojogo who chided the party for politicising such issues, insisting that the withdrawal was due to the problem between soldiers and operatives of the Amotekun Corps in the state
With police operatives already mounting abandoned military checkpoints, Army authorities up till the time of filing this report, have not made any statement on the development.
Meanwhile, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Jimoh Dojumo, said it was not true that the Army Commander had withdrawn from Ondo State Security Council over the development.
He said the Council membership was intact and disclosed that invitations were extended to all heads of security agencies in the state.
“It is not true and there’s no evidence to back such claim.
“He (Army commander) is still a member of the Ondo State Security Council and we have not received any letter from him.
“The governor is the chairman of the security council and we extend an invitation to all heads of security agencies in the state including him, the Army Commander.
When asked if he had been attending security meetings since the withdrawal from military checkpoints on the highways in the state, Dojumo simply replied “The question should be for him (the Army commander). No meeting we will conduct without inviting him till today.
