Police rescue seven kidnapped persons in Niger


Seven travellers allegedly abducted on Tegina-Zungeru road Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State have been rescued from their kidnappers by the police in the state.


DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesman of the Niger State Police Command, who confirmed the incident, stated that the abduction took place on Saturday, saying that the victims were rescued by a combined team of the Nigerian Army and Police.


“Police tactical team in collaboration with the army were immediately mobilised to the scene, where the assailants were equally engaged in a gun battle and as a result of this, the victims were rescued and subsequently ran back to their vehicle to continue their journey while the road was cleared for the road users and normalcy was restored,” the PPRO explained.”


He further explained that the police also foiled a planned attack by bandits on Goto-Rishi Village in Kaffin-Koro Paikoro Local Government Area in the state.


He stated that the Police, after receiving credible intelligence, were mobilised to the area where they engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun battle, during which the bandits escaped with bullet wounds into the forest.


The PPRO noted that one AK-47 rifle with three live ammunition and two Honda motorcycles without registration numbers were recovered from the scene.


He assured that as an investigation is ongoing, efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing hoodlums.


The PPRO explained that Gawu-Babangida Community in Gurara Local Government Area has, in an attempt to strengthen the security and community, collaborated in the fight against insecurity in the state.


He added that the community also donated four vehicles to vigilante groups of Izom, Lambata, Gawu and Gurara communities for effective security patrol to ensure the security of lives and properties.
