Security agents in Katsina on Tuesday foiled a planned protest by some concerned citizens in the state against the continuous killings of human lives daily in the North and the country in general.
According to the DPO, in charge of Katsina Central Police Station, the State Police Commissioner, Sanusi Buba, asked him to appeal to the protesters to shelve the protest until a proper arrangement is made to avoid hoodlums hijacking the protest to unleash terror on people in the state.
While claiming that the Police is not against the good intention of the concerned citizens, Buba said “there is need for security agents to be formally briefed of the planned activities in order to enable them provide adequate security to ensure the protest is not hijacked by people with ulterior motives.”
After much deliberation, the concerned citizens succumbed to the demands of the security agents and opted to address the press instead at the popular Kofar Soro Round About, leading to the Katsina Emir’s palace.
While speaking with the press, the leaders of the protest, Comrade Jamila Abbas and Bashir Dauda, said they chose to embark on the peaceful protest to register their displeasures concerning the daily killing across the country and the government’s failure to bring the situation under control.
According to Jamila Abbas, “as a mother and wife, I choose to lead this protest having seen how lives have been made to look meaningless by bandits. Particularly, the countless abuses ranging from rapes and other forms of dehumanization women undergo in the hands of the hoodlums. There is an urgent need on the part of the government to be more proactive in tackling the menace.”
Similarly, Bishir Dauda on his part faulted the strategies adopted by the security agents in fighting the bandits. He said “they always wait for the bandits to attack instead of confronting the enemies in their hideout, knowing very well where they are hiding in the forest. That is why we decided to join our brothers and sisters protesting all over the country as the situation has become so terrible that today the hoodlums have even formed “parallel government in some states.”
Comrade Bishir also used the opportunity to call for the suspension of the planned turbaning of President Buhari’s son, Yusuf, as ‘Talban Daura’ by the Daura Emirate Council amid the insecurity situation bedeviling the president’s home state of Katsina and other parts of the North.
He described the development as unfortunate and quite insensitive to the plight of the masses in the state.
