The Presidency has countered a public statement by one of the factions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, that they have received the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a statement by Mr Garba Shehu, Senior Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, on Saturday, the Presidency said Buhari had not endorsed any faction, adding that that the statement was blatantly untrue.
Reports had emerged that the President had endorsed one of the factions of the APC in Kano.
“This is blatantly untrue. This cannot happen when matters are awaiting adjudication by the courts.
“To be clear on this one, President Buhari has not endorsed any faction.
“His support is for the All Progressives Congress as a Party, united and strong, and not of any faction,” the Presidency’s statement read.
It was reported that this is coming less than a week after the Kano State Government had denied rumour that the State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his faction are planning to defect from the APC to the PRP.
The rumour emerged following a meeting between the Governor’s APC faction in an attempt to appeal the Abuja court ruling on the party’s wards and local Governments congresses held at Africa House, Government House, Kano last Sunday.
An Abuja High Court had sacked the leadership of the APC faction in Kano loyal to the Gov. Ganduje and declared the executives of former Governor of the state, Ibrahim Shekarau, as duly elected leaders of the party in the state.
