Manchester United only appointed Ralf Rangnick for a period of six months because they have set their sights on replacing him with Ajax boss, Erik Ten Hag at the end of the season.
The 63-year-old Rangnick was awarded a six-month deal last week and his contract includes a two-year consultancy role that starts next season.
The Telegraph reports that the German, who started his Old Trafford career with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday, was only given a short-term deal because United’s hierarchy has concluded plans to appoint Ten Hag this summer
Ten Hag had, a few days ago, made his desire to take up a new challenge in Europe very clear.
Paris Saint-Germain boss, Mauricio Pochettino, Brendan Rodgers of Leicester City and Zinedine Zidane are the other names linked to the Old Trafford permanent job.
