A Fulani group, Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of
Nigeria (KACRAN), has called on the relevant authorities to bring to an end
activities of both armed bandits and vigilantes.
KACRAN’S National President, Khalil Mohammed Bello made the
call in a statement made available in Damaturu, the Yobe State
capital, on Monday.
He alleged that vigilantes are the ones fueling and adding
salt to injury, as far as the development of banditry activities in the
Northwest region is concerned.
“Because, they are the people who are killing innocent
herders in the name of taking revenge against any attacks that were said to
have been carried out in their villages by bandits,” he said.
On armed banditry, according to Bello, KACRAN sees no reason
why people will arm themselves for whatever reason in the name of defending
their people, since it is not a stateless society.
He, therefore, raised concerned that, “armed banditry is
more dangerous to their people and other law abiding Nigerians, than being good
or helpful to them, because in the process of taken revenge against the
wrongful/unlawful activities of vigilantes meted against their people, they
always end up in attacking and killing innocent people in their villages, towns
or cities or on the highways.
“We of KACRAN consider all forms of banditry as a crime
against humanity which must be stopped and squarely dealt with its
perpetrators, because we see no reason, one will attack travellers, farms
lands, villages, or cities in the name of revenging, and brutally killing
innocent people including the old, female, children and destroying their
produce or property.
“We consider this as a barbaric act that will not be allowed
to continue or allow its perpetrators to go scot free without facing the wrath
of law which provides harsh punishment against its offenders.
“KACRAN is on the strong opinion that, all bandits and
vigilantes are the product of the same process, that is terrorism”.
As Nigeria’s enemies of peace as he claimed, the activities
of both vigilantes and bandits must be brought to an end by relevant government
agencies for peace to reign in the troubled Northwest.
“Against all, we of Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association
of Nigeria, (KACRAN), reject vigilantism and banditry of all sort for the fact
that, we strongly believe, if people are allowed barbarically use arms in the
name of self defense, the entire country will be doomed or plunged into
lawlessness and anarchism, whereby killing, kidnapping, attacking and other
vices will be the order of the day”, he said.
Khalil Mohammed Bello, on behalf of the Association, called
on federal and state governments to emulate the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu
Waziri Tambuwal, who in his wisdom totally banned vigilantes in his state to
prevent reprisal attacks.
