In an indication that afrobeats has gone fully international, Nigeria’s Wizkid and Tems got six nominations for the Soul Train Awards coming up 28 November.
The world acclaimed song of summer Essence gave Wizkid and Tems three joint nominations.
The two singers were nominated for Song of the Year, video of the year and best collaboration.
Tems was nominated separately for best new artist award.
Wizkid also got two additional individual nominations.
His Made In Lagos album was nominated for album of the year.
He was also nominated for The Ashford and Simpson songwriter’s award, for writing the song Essence.
H.E.R led with eight nominations, while Chris Brown & Jazmine Sullivan got six.
