Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has assured supporters the of newly promoted Niger Tornadoes football club of Minna rehabilitate the Bako Kontagora Memorial Stadium for the team to play its home matches in Minna, the state capital.
Expressing joy over the promotion of the team back to Division Two, Bello stated that inspite of the dwindling resources, his government will give the stadium a facelift.
The governor explained that his administration is determined to ensure that youth are given the right opportunity to showcase their God-given talents in the state.
“The stadium is critical, now that Niger Tornadoes is doing very well. We are trying to reposition the team back to its rightful position.
“But, then, we will try as much as we can to see that the Bako Kontagora Memorial Stadium is good enough to allow Premiership matches takes place there. As a government we will support them to play their matches at home We will look into it carefully,” he stated.
According to him, aside from upgrading the facilities at the Bako Kontagora Memorial Stadium, the Government is looking at the possibility of resuming work at the abandoned ultra-modern stadium at Maikunkule.
” If we have the resources, I think we will resume work at the abandoned ultra-modern stadium at Maikunkule by the last administration to enable us to have a befitting sporting facility,” he stated.
It was gathered that as a result of the bad state of the late Bako Kontagora memorial stadium, the management of the football team are presently planning to play their matches at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna.
This decision, it was learnt is not going down well with football enthusiasts as it has led to division among supporters in the State.
