Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has said he has
no intention to strip Harry Maguire, the Manchester United captaincy.
Speaking ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Watford, on
Saturday, Solskjaer insisted both he and Maguire would continue to ignore the
‘so-called experts’.
Roy Keane had branded United captain Maguire a ‘disgrace and
an embarrassment’, following the defender’s goal celebration where he stuck it
to his critics with his goal in England’s 5-0 win against Albania during the
FIFA International break.
And also there were calls to change the club’s captain with
Maguire having been adjudged to have disrespected the fans with his attitude.
Solskjaer noted that as team Man United have not performed
at the standard they ought and at the levels they need to be at.
“Harry, as Gareth [Southgate] rightly said, he’s not one to
hide on the treatment table or try to find any excuse to sit out games,” the
Norwegian told the press.
“For me, no I’ve not considered taking any captain’s armband
away from him. He’s been an absolute stalwart for us on and off the pitch since
he came in.
“The so-called experts have their opinions and that’s their
job to put their opinion that’s not something we have to worry too much about.
“As a true example of a Man United player Harry is always
there for his team and his country.”
