Suarez, Cavani react to sack of Oscar Tabárez as Uruguay coach after 15 years in charge

Uruguay strikers, Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani, have reacted to the sack of the country’s head coach, Óscar Tabárez.

The Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) had on Saturday announced the departure of Tabárez from the command of his national team after 15 years.

The AUF sacked Tabárez following Uruguay’s FIFA World Cup qualifying 3-0 defeat to Bolivia earlier this week.

Uruguay are now in danger of missing the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar following their latest defeat to Bolivia as they are currently in seventh place.

Reacting, Suarez, in a post via his Instagram account, left a heartfelt message to the Uruguayan tactician, who has been the only national team manager Suárez has known while playing for Uruguay.

The Atletico Madrid forward wrote, “Thank you for making the national team identify itself in values, effort, humility, and work.

“Eternal thanks to you for teaching me to improve every time I see you because you always have things to improve, and that is how you let me know, and that’s why I will always be thankful for all of you.”

“It is not a farewell; it is just a thank you for everything you have given to our football and our team from Uruguay! Eternally grateful teacher and technical body.”

On his part, Cavani, a Manchester United striker, also wrote on his Instagram page, “I hear a few words but very broad feelings, THANK YOU, TEACHER, YOU LOVE IT A LOT.”
