Following the withdrawal of soldiers from various
checkpoints across Ondo State, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has disclosed
that development was due to some lingering issues between the soldiers and the
Amotekun Corps.
According to Akeredolu, who stated that Amotekun was the
target, maintained that the resolve of the State to sustain the security outfit
remains unwavering.
The governor in a statement issued by his Commissioner for Information, Donald Ojogo, who lashed out at the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for allegedly politicising the situation, stated that he will not succumb to blackmail.
The peace currently being enjoyed in the State seemed to be
threatened following the withdrawal of soldiers from various checkpoints across
the state.
Also, PDP had alleged that the failure of Akeredolu to pay
the soldiers their allowances was the reason for the withdrawal from the
checkpoints.
Ojogo in the statement added that the “spurious efforts of
the opposition PDP to weaponise a seeming situation of near sabotage, clearly
shows how detached they are from the arena of vigilance.
“We won’t be deterred in any form. Our time-tested character
and attitude toward tackling insecurity even at odd times, shall not be
compromised.”
