The Senate Committee on Sports on Tuesday called for an increase in the daily feeding allowance of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.
Chairman of the Committee, Senator Obinna Ogba (PDP-Ebonyi) made the call in Abuja on Tuesday, while submitting the 2022 budget defence report of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development to the Senate Committee on Appropriations, NAN reports.
Ogba said it was worrisome that corps members were paid N600 as daily meal allowance despite their efforts as against the payment of N1,000 daily meal allowance to prisoners by the Nigerian Correctional Service.
Ogba, lamenting the decreasing yearly budgetary allocations to the ministry, called for an increase of funds in its 2022 budget, given the importance of sports to youth development.
He added that it was the government’s responsibility to provide an enabling environment such as security, sports infrastructure, adequate stadiums to attract investors and drive investments in the sports industry.
