Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr has said that his team
needs to improve their attacking play ahead of Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying
fixture with Cape Verde on Tuesday.
Rohr also singled out Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi and
Everton’s Alex Iwobi for praise, adding that their return to the team has
improved the Super Eagles.
The German tactician stated this following his side’s World
Cup qualifying 2-0 win over Liberia over the weekend.
Recall that Ndidi and Iwobi started as Rohr’s men defeated
Liberia in Morocco.
The Premier League stars had missed Nigeria’s 1-0 defeat to
CAR in Lagos last month.
“I think that the return of some players like Wilfred Ndidi
and Alex Iwobi who didn’t play last month’s qualifiers against the Central
African Republic is a very good thing for the Super Eagles,” Rohr said at his
post-match press conference after Nigeria defeated Liberia.
“I admit that we really need to work on our attacking play,
there is still a lot of work to do.”
He added, “So, we’re happy with the victory, we knew before
the match that it would be difficult to beat Liberia. We saw the videos of
their games, to have lost in the last minutes when they deserved to have got a
draw.
“But I’m happy that we didn’t concede any goal. Whether a
penalty or not, I’m very happy that we won the game and picked up all the three
points on offer.”
