Nigeria has set in motion a counter-terrorism plan of action to repress Boko Haram and Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) through intelligence.
The Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) is conducting a Defence Advisers/Attachés Annual Conference and Maiden Retreat.
The theme is “Advancing Counter-Terrorism Efforts Through Enhanced Inter-Agency Cooperation: A Whole of Government Approach”.
The one-week high-powered gathering in Abuja starts Monday, November 8 at the DIA Headquarters and Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC).
The meet will examine, re-appraise Defence Advisers/Attachés, foreign defence relations, and assist in articulating new strategies in intelligence gathering.
A statement by the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) said the event is the first since its establishment, as there had been no platform for reflections on activities to help attain the core mandate.
The conference seeks to galvanize inputs in view of the myriads of security challenges facing Nigeria and provide an avenue for self-examination to ensure optimal performance.
“This is in line with the policy directive of the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
“The Agency finds it expedient to organise its maiden retreat to provide a forum to appraise the activities of the various Defence Sections as well as brainstorm to proffer new strategies”, the NIA noted.
The list of invitees includes former and current NIA Directors, Chiefs of Defence Intelligence and other selected captains in the intelligence sector.
