Femi Adesina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Adviser
on Media and Publicity has revealed that the current administration met an
insecure country in 2015.
Adesina also insisted that insurgency was Nigeria’s main
security challenge then, but other challenges like banditry, kidnapping,
cultism, among others, later emerged.
He described the situation as worrisome, adding that the
Federal Government was really working hard to curb security challenges in the
country.
“We met an insecure country, we went at it, and there was
some stability, and after a while, it exploded again, and it became
hydra-headed,” Adesina told Channels TV on Monday.
“Insurgency was the main problem then. Banditry, kidnapping,
cultism [later] came in and all sorts of things. The issue is that security is
a big elephant in the room.
“The government is working at it seriously. There is
progress, but some people want to mistake it for stagnancy,” Adesina added.
Terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and
general criminalities have been on the increase across the country lately.
Residents and students of some Northern States have been the
main targets of bandits, while unknown gunmen have been attacking police
stations in the Southern region of Nigeria.
