The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday adopted a report by its
Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes for the confirmation of
nominees as board members of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC).
After the report was read by the Committee Chairman, Senator
Suleiman Abdu Kwari, who also represented Kaduna North Senatorial District,
Senators who made contributions commended the Committee for the discreet
investigation of the nominees.
Senator Jibrin Barau expressed his view in support of the
report, given that there was no controversy trailing any of the nominees.
Before the open debate, the Chairman of the Committee
submitted that the nominees made themselves available and were thoroughly
scrutinised in line with the mandate of the Committee, while he urged Senators
to approve the nominees.
“That the Senate do receive and consider the report of the
Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes on the confirmation of the
nominees,” he said.
After contributions on the need for EFCC to have a board in
place to strengthen activities of the agency, Deputy Senate President, Ovie
Omo-Agege put the report to a voice and it was passed.
The following nominees were confirmed.
1. George Abang Ekungu – Secretary of the Commission
2. Luqman Muhammed – Board member
3. Anumba Adaeze – Board member
4. Alhaji Kola Raheem Adesina – Board member
