The National Assembly security has been tightened as
President Muhammadu Buhari is billed to present the 2022 annual budget before a
joint session of lawmakers today.
Security agents have taken over the entire complex and every
entry gate.
It was observed that more security operatives were seen
with some patrolling the complex in black Hilux vans.
The tightened security has reduced the usual hustle and
bustle as fewer people were allowed entry after thorough scrutiny by security
agents based on directives earlier handed down to them by the Sergeant-At-Arms,
the official National Assembly’s security outfit.
In the arrangement, preparatory for the budget joint session
which will hold at the Green Chambers of the House of Representatives,
journalists covering the upper and lower legislative chambers were worst hit as
only a few of the media houses were accredited to cover the event.
In the Senate Press Corps, about 80 journalists representing
various media houses cover legislative activities of the upper chambers, but
only 45 were accredited and allowed entry. From the House of Representatives
Press Corps, only 33 were allowed entry.
Meanwhile, President Buhari is expected to present the 2022
budget of N16.4 trillion, N3.8 trillion more than that of 2021, to the National
Assembly.
